STAR (Specially Treated Abrasion Resistant) Plate

STARPLATE® consists of a very hard abrasion resistant chromium facing fused to mild steel backing plate. A homogeneous interface layer from the dilution of the materials forms the metallurgical bond. The material can be cold formed with or against the clad layer the excellent hardness (minimum 57 typical 58-62 RC) is achieved by deposition of this specially developed Chromium Carbide facing rather than by heat treatment. The computer controlled manufacturing process is the key to maintaining consistent product quality and is carried out within closely monitored parameters.

  • SIRIUS S15 grade is a fully austenitic stainless steel containing 21 Cr, 1.7 Si, 0.17 N and Rare Earth elements (Cerium, Lanthane,…) which make alloy particularly well designed for high temperature application.. The nitrogen additions stabilize the austenitic microstructure, particularly at high temperatures. The alloy is less susceptible to embrittlement effects occurring after long-term exposure. Creep properties are enhanced, due to high.
  • Chromium and Nitrogen. Rare Earth elements (Ce, La,..) are added in order to anchor the oxide protective film and improve the resistance of the steel to oxide spaling. As a result, the alloy is much more resistant to high temperature thermal cycling effects in oxidizing atmospheres compared to 310.

  • SIRIUS S15 grade may be used up to 1100o C (2012o F in oxidizing environments. Thermal cycling effects, sulphur containing atmospheres and low oxygen contents reduce the high temperature resistant f the steel.

Comentary
Introduced in the market since 1999. A product of dense Chrome Carbide overlay surfacing welded to a mild steel base, produced by layering up to 2 layers of chrome carbide hard facing.

The plates are produced flat and are tandem welded to achieve the desired thickness.

The bond between hard facing and backing plate is metallurgical. The degree of the dilution for the hard facing and material depends largely on the welding parameters. As such the carbide content is approximately 25% which is better than hard facing by manual process.

Upon completion of the surfacing, the plates are straightened.

Use
STARPLATE® 600 may be pressed to diameters of 100mm with the hard facing on the ID. As the plate is stress relived, pressing it with the hard facing on the OD is possible.
STARPLATE® 600 is excellent in conditions of abrasion with high impact and high velocity material flow and is most successful with liners and impellers, fans, crusher liners, transfer chutes, pump lining, separators, drop zones, etc.
Chrome Carbide's retain their hardness up to 1200°F (630°C) for temperatures exceeding that non-ferrous alloys are recommended. The working temperatures will affect mechanical properties of backing plate. We recommend that maximum core working temperature for STARPLATE® 600 should not exceed 450°C.

Comentary

The plates are produced cylindrically and are welded to achieve the desired thickness.

The bond between hard facing and backing plate is metallurgical. The degree of the dilution between the hard facing and base material depends largely on the welding parameters. With these controls we achieve a carbide content of 29% through the hard facing. This is much better than manual hard-facing process.

Upon completion of the surfacing, the plates are straightened.

STARPLATE® 6062 may be pressed to diameters of 200mm with the hard facing on the ID. As the plate is stress relived, pressing it with the hard facing on the OD is possible.

STARPLATE® 6062 is excellent in conditions of abrasion with low impact and medium velocity material flow and is most successful with liners and impellers, fans, transfer chutes, pump lining, separators, etc.

Chrome Carbide retains their hardness up to 1200°F (630°C). For high temperatures, non-ferrous alloys are recommended. Working temperatures affect the mechanical properties of backing plate; we recommend that maximum core working temperature for STARPLATE® 6062 should not exceed 250°C.

Comentary
Introduced in the market since 1996. A product of dense martensitic Chrome Carbide overlay surfacing fuse casted to mild steel backing plate, by a continuous process. Stress relieving of the plate is integrated in the process. The plates are produced flat and the hard facing applied and is fused in one layer (not multi layered).

The bond between hard facing and the backing plate is metallurgical. The degrees of dilution of the hard facing and base material are controlled to the extent that there is only 1 mm dilution. The carbide content is increased to 60% due to strict parameter controls. No further stress relief is required and the plate has NO distortion associated with conventional compound plates that require to be straightened.

Chrome carbide plate is extremely versatile and can be fixed in place, using conventional welding techniques welding to mild steel base, by using countersunk bolts, or by studs fixed onto the mild steel backing plate.
